Hi everybody, as we all know the American Revolution is one of the biggest cause for the changes that we have today. Like how the colonies declare their own independence, form their own government, and form the presentational campaign rather then following the monarchy. The changes that we have today are the effects of the American revolution and many changes occur because of war. Even today, the United State are still involve in the war in Iraq and many changes occur just like the American Revolution.
Please post any changes that has occur due to the Iraq War and any comments that you may have.
Thanks,
Aaron Lam

US hegemony has been damaged by the Iraq war and thanks to our war there has been a drop in over all global support for our country. The Iraq war has left the Ameican people discontented with Republicans and George Bush as well as with a desire for change. this could be essential in determining our next president. Although we are not ditching the old ways for something completely, radicaly new as in the Revolution, we are influenced by the actions taken in the past by our government in considering the new leader that the American people will instate this year
Adding onto what Joanne said, the Iraq war has also left Americans to feel threatened. Because of terrorist activities such as 9/11, Americans have realized the faults of their defensive system on an international elvel. Once it was demonstrated how easy it was to breach US air security, many people felt unsafe even in their own homes. The Iraq war has shaken everyone in the US awake to the possibilities of great terror.
The war in iraq has brought upon multiple changes in economy, political ideals, and the lives of the people that live in the States.
Due to the uproar brought upon 9/11 causing the american government agaisnt terrorism war has broken loose. The downside to showing American military power is that it has taken a financial and political strain in the society. Through the fact in which since the American way of living is driven by capitalist and commercial science and due to the flow of money depleating within the United states the structure of the government would fail. From an actual surplus into a immense amout of debt within in 6 years american life has changed. Through this change in economical standing it changes the lives and political aspects of the people. The political aspect changes because the needs of the government takes a shift. FOr example trying to keep american economy up, Jobs lost, the housing market. The lives of the people change because the whole country is beginning to shift.
The war in Iraq not only has brought many changes in the economy and politics, but it has become something everyone in the country is completely submersed in. I believe that in a way it has brought disunity into the United States by dividing Americans up into "for the war" and "against the war". But it has also brought extreme unity and togetherness. Because of the war, people are able to group together and fight for what they believe in (this is something I believe the colonists and the new American citizens would have never done without sever coaxing and even then would not have been as united) creating worldwide awareness. As a group, all of America has found common ground supporting the troops and doing our best to make their lives, and their families, easier. Now, don’t get me wrong, I definitely don’t believe the war is a good thing, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any positive consequences. One major negative, I feel, relates to what Joanne said “this could be essential in determining our next president”. Although I give the candidates credit for standing by there views on all issues, there is favoritism in politics in general and the elections on the war and the troops. We focus so much of the war effort, and the debt the caused it that I feel, if something big enough happens, the country could seriously screw up and cause something terrible to happen. Like we were talking about in history, if Shays’ Rebellion and any other small rebellions weren’t stopped they could have gotten out of control and cause the destruction of the government. I feel the same way in our case. The country needs to continue their focus on war efforts, but also needs to make room for smaller issues. By smaller issues, I do not necessarily mean education or taxes, but issues like gay marriage, criminal justice and abortion (these are just a few areas I feel have unfair or non-efficient resolutions or are not as resolved as the government seems to think they are…I seem to be going off topic). Basically, my point is that there are pro’s and con’s to the war and we can’t just focus on one side.
Well due to the war, security became a big thing especially with passports and IDs getting on airplanes and such. From my research, it was said that the U.S. invasion was mainly to gain control of Iraq's oilfields and we have really been noticing the oil prices in gas stations increasing. I agree with Joanne with how the war has left the American people discontented with George Bush because of his decision creating a war just meant thousands of people dying.
I feel the American foreign policy, i.e. our involvement with other countries, in a similar fashion as with Iraq (war) has brought several changes upon the status of our nation. First of all, due to our forced presence in hostile nations, we have a steadily increasing defense budget and military spending. To date, the amount of money the United States of America spends on the military is just over 711 Billion dollars, accounting for 48% of the money spent by the entire world on military. That's almost half of all the money that the entire world spends on military, held by America. Second of all, we have an issue of elevated importance, national security, which has been directly affected by our presence in countries such as Iraq. On 9/11/01, our nation was attacked by Islamic terrorists coming from the middle east. In order to prevent this sort of thing happening from Iraq, we have numerous and complicated measures of safety in transportation, exportation, importation, immigration, and emigration.
I agree with what everyone has said, and would also like to include a few more facts.
Due to the 9/11 incident, the world sypathized with us and we were the top loved nation...Of course, after the war with Iraq, our popularity took a freefall to one of the least liked nations of the world. Also, wasn't the 9/11 incident induced by Bin Laden in Afganistan? So why are we even concentrating on a subfactor of the terrorism rather than the real hunt? As for the excuse of the WMD (weapons of mass destruction), many other nations also started nuclear programs, and they're CONFIRMED (unlike Iraq), so why aren't we overreacting about that?
The issue regarding the war with Iraq, the Bush administration, and why Americans are fightind in a war against Iraq is a very hard subject to discuss due to the fact that not only do we as American people have a corruptt government but we also have one that concerns themselves with revenge, money, land, and situations that need not involve us rather than what the people of the United States need and want in order to live a happy life. Why is America in the war with Iraq if any one person can answer that question then that would be astonishing. In the bigging we were after weapons of mass destruction we even went so far as to killing the Sadan Hussan who in fact had no weapons of mass destruction and was simply proving stubborn against the American officials. In credited documentaries and factual programs their is a story on how Sadan at one point tried to kill George W. Bush the first Bush that was appointed President. The idea of killing him was simply out of revenge.
We are at war in Iraq when Korea and other major instityutes have power to create nuclear weapons. so many people have died in this war and its ridiculous. Why must the public suffer because of a feud between two people or two families? It isn't our problem we as people should not be penalized because someone has personally offended our president. Our economy was strong and very healthy during the time of President Clintons ruling. Why? because he focused on what really mattered and made an effort to better the things that needed fixing. George W. Bush has simply raised taxes on wter and opther essentials, sent our beloved family mebers out to fight in a pointless war, and made it hard to seek medical attention as well for us! For students like us to go to college. Yes scholarships exist but 10 out of about 400 kids will have the opportunity to recieve a full tuition college scholarship to any school of their choice.
Just like Louis said, Bin Laden was the culprit of 9/11 why do we even go with war with Iraq? Show of the Military? For Oil? Why spend so much money on the War with Iraq. Focus on the real problem, which is the terrorist groups. This Nation has to stop pouring so much money into Iraq and realize that the terrorist groups do not remain stationary and could be anywhere from the North to the South Pole.
Yes security went up, which may be the only good thing, but the nation has gone through so much turmoil that it has left the government to make terrible mistakes that were easily avoidable.
Agreeing with everyone who wrote about the 9/11 attack. Everybody's lives has changed ever since the Iraq war. People are discontented at the fact that their loved ones are fighting at war and how thousands of soldiers risk their lives. Economically, we've been on the down fall ever since the Iraq war started. People hypothesize that there might be another Great Depression. Though the idea is far fetched, it's certainly not impossible. Economically, it hasn't been stable and millions of people are losing their jobs and losing their homes as well.
I'd also like to point out that the Iraq war has also had very negative effects on our economy. The situation in Iraq, which has the world's second-largest proven oil reserves, has added $4 to $5 per barrel to oil price. our stockmarkets have also suffered, Dow Jones went through a so called 'Iraqanophobia', contributing to unseen gains and falls of the stock-market and overall difficult investing periods.
while we are on the subject of economy, I'd like to also point out that more than 700 billion dollars (and that's when i last checked) of our taxpayer's income tax, was used on defense, NOT including the war in Iraq. That is about the same as the entire rest of the world spends on defense COMBINED, if not more. (for more on this subject, you can google "military industrial complex". It is nice that we have this "outgoing security", but in exchange, possible school funds, health policies, and everything else benificial to the U.S. that needs money is not getting it. Anyone see a problem with this? Because apparently the war industries don't, since they are blinded by money.
In regards to my last comments, the military-industrial complex is so corrupt, that the only president to go against it was Eisenhower, and that was only indirectly in his speech. Apparently you can get shot if you spread this info to the wrong ears and cause a disturbance to the plans of the companies involved....
to add on to louis's point, our economic spending on warfare and defense of our country (700 billion!!) is way overused. instead on using the people's money for things that we actually need in our own country, the gov is spending our money on a military and on wars that we don't need, like the Iraq war. It may be nice that we get oil from them someday, but wouldn't you rather spend your money on research to make non-fuel effecient cars so we don't have that problem anymore??? To be simple and straightforward, too much money is being spent on warfare and the military and non enough is used for the country's true needs and the people's needs
Like Taylor pointed out, why isn't some of the money that is spent on the Iraq War used on alternatives for the fuel problem. Non-fuel efficient cars would be a step forward. Except that the government looks only in the same direction and makes a bigger mess than before.
The Iraq war has left America as the country that has no aim basically we go to war for reasons that seem clear but in fact are not. Bin Laden was the person who were were up against. I truly believe that if America wanted to find bin Laden we would have him in our captivity at least 1 year after the attack on the buildings took place. We are atually fighting aimlessly in Iraq. Apparently the war is not over but my question is how will we no when the war is ovet when we have no goal to accomplish. we've already killed saddaqm hussan the leader of Iraq so the person with the power to enforce the creation of any nuclear weapons is dead. so why are we still trying to fight> This war has left the economy hopeless, food prices rising taxes rising, college and school fees rising. everything is increasing but yet the money that employees are being payed isn't increasingh so now it is much harder for families to save and plan towards the future
Unfortunatelt we are left with only the war on our minds and like joanne and alex said this is going to be a major factor that will effect who we will appoint as the president of the united states. We should not be picking a president because we are deperate for change or because we want the war to end. We should be picking a president becaus ethey ar ein fact the best and most capable at leading opur country in a positive direction one that will make us all happy and make life easier for us to live.
All of our nations money has been credited towards the war so now as a country we are in debt owing countries more than half a billion dollars. All of this money is going towards the war. Instead of taking car of maters life alternative fuels to help with globalk warming, as well as education fees (creating more scholarships) for academically gifted students who have financial problems. There are so many problems in our country today but unfortunately we don't have the money because we are throwing it all away towards the war. Their are industrustrial , economic, political, there are so mnay problems but yet we are so focused on this war and the effect that is will have but in theory there is no way of determining the ending of this war. But i no for sure that if this war continues then the country of America as we no it wil seise to exist and it will be replaced by a country with deteriorated systems
The war in Iraq has added trillions to our national debt. Funding the military and the war has had a huge effect on our economy. To U.S. taxpayers, the total cost of the war will be around 2 trillion dollars. Tensions have also risen with nearby countries like Turkey and Iran, with Americans fearing the possibility of waging war with yet another country in the Middle East. It also has a direct effect on anyone who drives a car. By invading Iraq, the United States interrupted oil production. The price of oil has risen four times its original price in 2003. All in all, it has an economic, social AND political effect on Americans.
