The ethnic groups in the colonial period were slowly expanding into various races. In the colonial period, intermarriages between the mulattoes and the African Americans became common. Native born African-Americans contributed to the growth of their culture with the mixture of African and American elements of folkways, speech, and religion. How did the cultures of south & New England colonies contribute to diversity that exist today? Compare the southern & New England cultures to cultures of modern day America.

First off, in modern day, we have people stemming from the south and New England. They brought different cultures along with them in many areas. In foods, we hear advertisements about "New England" Burgers, or "recipes straight from the bay". We have jazz and blues music from the south a very popular genre today, and even lingo are very similar. Of course, many cultures/traditions also got lost over time, such as "predestination" of Puritan belief
The culture of the southern colonies revolved around slavery and slave labor. This was a important factor. Through this way of life diversity came to be. Intermarriage was not an unusual or rare situation in the Sotheren area at the time. Female slaves were often raped by their masters and they ended up becoming pregnant for them. Today their is no such thing as intermarriage in away becasaus etheir are many mixed people and being in a relationship or even marrying a person outside of your race is not a crime and is not looked down upon except by certain racist citizens. There is nothing wrong with having sex with someone outside of you race or religion. When its forced its called rape no atter who the person is or what nationalality they are.
In todays society their is so much diversity with ethic and cultural beliefs. Today their is food, music, dancing, almost everything from different countries and places. Like what louis chen said their are certain foods that are acknowledged by where they were created like New England burgers or steak etc.the music that so many people enjoy an dlisten to the music taht create dand evolved into todays hip hop, rock, etc. Jazz came form the souhern part of the United States. It was put togetehr by and African American man.so much culture and tradition was drawn out of New England, the southern states, and so many other places!
I agree with what Louis and Nemin said because intermarriages was a big thing in the south and began to develop culture as time passes. Since now like Nemin said there is no penalty if different races married meaning that it was brought from the past when intermarriages were happening. It was not easy for African Americans to practice their culture traditions, practices, and beliefs due to slavery. As Louis said many cultures/traditions also got lost over time, that is somewhat true because the people might not have totally forgotten it but later emphasized on what they believed and culture etc was created from there.
To add on to what Nemin was saying, the children of intermarried couples and mixed races passed on heritage from both parents, creating more diversity for the future. I somewhat disagree with Jimmy and Louis as cultures are not lost over time, forgotten, or really emphasized today. If there was an emphasis on the culture, it mostly be when learning about it, just as if one was trying to learn a new language. The culture of the slaves and the African-Americans passed on through time and became part of the norm in American culture today. The examples that Louis gives about jazz and blues music and lingo, such as 'goober', are perfect and are intergrated into modern-day life.
agreeing with what Louis said yes many traditoins and beliefs do get lost over time. For example as louis mentioned the Puritans their way of life and torture slowly but surely died down. Howver many beliefs have not been forgotten just changed; like rock to metal, or hip hop to rap all of these are common day examples that people do stray a little bit from modern beliefs and make up something different
I agree what Louis said about people from the South and New England bringing their cultures to the New World and stuff. Because the world is mostly affected by the people's influence from before.
Aaron is definately right about people's actions from early on affecting the world in the present. for example, Americans speak english because the british took over during the colonial period...we could be speaking french or spanish right now instead of english all because the british decided to take over the North American continent.
I do not believe that cultures get lost over time. We still have strong holds to our past. Some pieces of our past has disappeared, but even pieces of Purtian belief exist in our culture, such as the belief of doing good for your fellow man.
Southern culture is much the same as it was in the 18th century. Northern culture is similar in the fact that it is liberal. Northern culture is very adaptable as it has always been.
Intermarrige between races does not really mean the loss of culture. Some of it is alter due to the fact that there are two cultures interacting with oneanother. This then bringing forth an alterned somewhat new culture (not entirely new but as a mix)Intermarrige was insanely hard back in those days but in present time it is not. In that time the social hierarchy of those marriges would be demeaning because Blacks=Cattle and Whites=Higher Power. Just as a note, culture does get lost as the future generation overtakes the past generation. Without the past generation teaching the Present generation the Culture, it is vuirtually lost. For example the idea in which and African of present time not knowing what it is to be truely african is a link to the statement. This statement is not a generalization of all Africans that set forth in America, but some barely know anything about there motherland
