Hey guys! As we all of course know, major political change and transfiguration occurred and continues to occur throughout all of American history.
What I want to know is what your thoughts are in what major events caused change in the political landscape, and how they can compare to changes taking place today. Now obviously, I don't want you to compare slavery to our modern world, but the extent of change and reorder of politics in America today.

The Civil War led to a more strict government as well as a population which considered the issue of states' rights vs. central government. This idea was flourishing throughout the Civil War and through the formation of a government based on states' rights by the Southern Confederacy. When the Confederacy lost and the Southern states reentered the Union, the Southern want for states' rights continued to flourish and affected how the government handled latter issues in the Union and how they exerted their power.
also, you definitly got more influence and changefrom the beginning of American politics to the current. Look at how voting changes, with the basic concept of wealthy white males voting, to more and more expansion, such as popular vote with Andrew Jackson, to allowing females and blacks to vote later. Today, any U.S. citizen can vote, as long as over the age of 18.
Will due to the changes after the civil war many political changes has occurred. The formation of the republican of course and the way people vote is also different, quote by Louis. People can't vote unless they're white and own land but now all people can vote just by being 18 years old.
The various reform movements, such as women's rights and ethical treatment for the insane eventually set these classes of people to an equal standard as the rest of humanity. Women were eventually given the right to vote, own private property, and enjoyed equal job opportunities. These few changes eventually created a very equal society, regardless of race or gender.
One major change in politics that affects us today was the split of the Northern Democrats, during the Civil War, into the Copperheads, War Democrats, and Peace Democrats (Actually, you could also consider the split of the Democratic Party into the Northern and Southern Democrats). When the political party split, the Americans began to understand the sectionalism that came with political parties. I think this affected our political parties today because if you look at the most recent election, Obama vs. McCain, you would see on the map we colored that the democrats were prominent in the North and the Republican Party thrived in the South. Thus, our parties today are sectional and when someone runs for president from that party, they tend to support reforms and policies based on the best interests of the section their party supports. Something we also see that is reminiscent of the past is the diversified party support in the south. The states are not as defined (by an imaginary line) like the original North and South [see map: http://www.humanevents.com/images/emails/ENPR/electoral_college.gif].
You can't see the whole link for the map but you can google it (make sure the one you look at is the 2008 Elections) or you could look at the map we colored if you still have it.
More women got the chance to vote while their husbands were away at war. Also, they had the opportunity to work at jobs such as nurses and became an industrial employee. Also, popular sovereignty gave the right to the people to vote whether or not slavery was admitted into their state. In a way, it applies today because it gives the right of voters over the age of 18 and obviously slavery was abolished and doesn't exist today.
The presidential election of 1824 represents a watershed in American politics. The collapse of the Federalist Party and the illness of the "official candidate" of the Democratic-Republicans led to a slate of candidates who were all Democratic-Republicans. This led to the end of the Congressional Caucus system for nominating candidates, and eventually, the development of a new two-party system in the United States.
Women now had more jobs available, because of men being at work. Slaves became free and had a right to vote. With more women in the working field soon femenists demanded more rights for women like voting and equallity rights.
Slavery served as the restrictyion to African Americans and it usually told tehm what thy could not do. Politically all laws and major changes made to society were created to benefit the Caucasian american. Today we have our first African American president so we see politics shoifting in favor of all races rather than just one. It is a very large shift in politics and social character. Socially everyone seems to get along now a days in the sense that no one is really belittled because of there race. Yes there is still racism but it isn't and prevalent as it was during the years before and during the civil war
The Civil War was the cause of stricter government control. A major political change would be the formation of the republican party as well as the way voting rights as well as procedures were changed
